Green Building Initiatives

We are active in a variety of organizations and programs to promote the advancement of environmental stewardship.

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council to promote a sustainable future through the application of improved energy efficiencies and environmentally friendly products, practices and processes. The LEED Green Building Rating System was developed to evaluate building energy and environmental performance. The rating system assigns points in the categories of Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Materials and Resources and Indoor Environmental Quality. Of the 64 possible points, Hamilton can have a direct impact on 24 points. Hamilton is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council and has been instrumental in the development and implementation of LEED-AGL (Application Guide for Laboratory Facilities).

Labs 21 is the EPA and DOE initiative dedicated to the pursuit of sustainable, high performance, and low energy laboratories. Hamilton is an industry representative and contributing resource for this initiative.

SmartWood is a program of the Rainforest Alliance to certify the use of wood from well-managed, sustainable forests adhering to the standards of the Forestry Stewardship Council. SmartWood has certified Hamilton to provide chain of custody wood products.
