Environmentally Conscious Manufacturing Practices

Our green efforts are integral to Thermo Scientific Hamilton manufacturing strategies. We invest in technologies that yield benefits for the environment, our employees, our customers and our community.

Wood Laboratory Furniture Manufacturing
Thermo Scientific Hamilton wood products were the first to utilize water-based finishes. Extensive research and development resulted in a wood finish that meets all industry standards with significantly reduced VOC (volatile organic compound) and HAP (hazardous air pollutant) emissions.

Sustainable wood and LEED compliant adhesives are used exclusively in the construction process. Yield optimizing software is utilized on all CNC machinery to reduce scrap; any wood scrap generated is used to heat the facility. Rapidly renewable species are being continually evaluated as alternative product materials.

Steel Laboratory Furniture Manufacturing
Steel laboratory furniture includes recycled steel as a raw material. CNC machine centers utilize yield-maximizing software to reduce waste. Scrap steel is recycled back to the steel mill. Steel products feature an electrostatically applied powder coat finish. The solvent-free process eliminates off-gassing. Excess powder is captured and reused.

Thermo Scientific Hamilton wood and steel finishes meet SEFA (Scientific Equipment and Furniture Manufacturers Association) industry finish standards and provide durability and chemical resistance equal to or better than commonly used solvent based finishes.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources recognized these environmental benefits by presenting us with the prestigious PEP (Pollution-Prevention-Prosperity) Award.
